INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR NEW PG2 MAPS

-------------------------------------------
How to use new maps with Panzer General II.
-------------------------------------------
I decided to re-write this part again, because some people don't understand how to make it work.

1. Make a directory named "MAP" in your PGII main directory (e.g. c:\pg2).
2. Copy ALL *.SHP file from the MAP directory on the CD-ROM to this new MAP directory on your hard disk.
It will take about 60 Mb.
3. De-activate the file attribute "read-only" on ALL *.SHP files in the new MAP directory.
You do this by marking all .*.SHP files, right click on them, choose "properties", and de-activate the
   cross in the "read-only" box.
4. All new *.SHP files that you'll get in the future (e.g. by downloading new PGII maps), can now be
put in this new MAP directory and the game will read them. Don't forget to change the file attribute
   as described in point 3.
5. Now put the *.MAP file that comes with the new map *.zip archiv, into the "SCENARIO" subdirectory of your
PGII installation path (e.g. c:\pg2\scenario). This folder already exists; it's the folder were all original
   *.MAP files are stored.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
---------------------------------
Q: I still can not find the original SHP file, were are they ??
A: As I told you before (2), the original SHP file are on the PGII CD-ROM, in the MAP directory.
Yes!! that is NOT your harddisk, thats the big round silver disk named Panzer General II,
you have to put it into your CD-ROM drive, and yes you CAN copy from a CD-ROM.
It userly drive D or E.

Q: All the original maps are there, but the new map is not available in the game/editor ?
A: Remember to put the *.MAP file in the "SCENARIO" subdirectory of your PGII installation path.

Q: The map is selectable in the game/editor, but when i try to use the new map, the screen is black ?
A: Copy all *.SHP files from the new map *.zip archiv to the (new created !) "MAP" directory. Remember
to de-activate the "read-only" file attribute for ALL the *.SHP files.

Q: All maps is selectable, but all becomes black screen, even the original, when I try to use them ?
A: ALL *.SHP files will now be taken from the new "MAP" directory, and in oder to run them properly, you HAVE to
DE-ACTIVATE the "read-only" file attribute on ALL *.SHP files, including the original ones.

Q: I HAVE de-activated "read-only" on ALL *.SHP file in the new MAP directory in my PGII directory - but it still dont work ?
A: You have to copy ALL the original *.SHP from the CD-ROM to the new MAP directory - its about 60MB.
It will NOT work, regaredless of you having the CD in the drive or not. Ones you make the new MAP directory, the ONLY
directory from which the game will read *.SHP file, it this new MAP directory. It will NO MORE read the MAP directory
   on the CD-ROM.

Q: All "videos"(SMK) and "intro sound"(MUS) is gone ?
A: You will still need your PGII CD if you want too hear MUS and see SMK files, but all
maps (*.SHP files) will now be taken from the new "MAP" directory in your PGII directory.

Q: The PGII editor keeps telling me, that "no map selected", even though I have selected one ?
A: Again - all *.SHP files have to be in the "MAP" directory. INCLUDING the ORIGINAL ones!!!
And again, remember to DE-ACTIVATE the "read-only" file attribute for all the *.SHP files.

Note: Dont mail me and say you have followered the instruction to the step, and it still dont work.
If you have followered the instruction to the step, IT WILL WORK.
